Women's Hearts Take Center Stage at New Stanford Clinic

Months after joining an exercise group, Valerie Garcia would stay red in the face, gasping for air, feeling like she was going to pass out, while the rest of her classmates jogged by. No matter how hard or how often she exercised, she was incapable of building any endurance. "I was sure it wasn't my heart but nothing .

Fresh start: Preparing with a scrub and a nod to the kitchen god

A week ago, Jinny Chuang, in need of a large fish for yet another of her pre-Chinese New Year parties, found herself once again in front of the bustling seafood counter at the Asian Food Market in Edison.

She waved and caught the eye of the fish manager, Michael Zhou, who was taking an order over the telephone.

"He will find the best one for me," said a confident Chuang, 53, of Holmdel, a regular customer who owns a travel agency across the street.

Hanging up the telephone, Zhou, a tall, slender man in knee-high rubber boots that squeaked when he walked, was all business as he scrutinized the tanks under the counter brimming with large, live fish. Several minutes passed before he made his selection: a nearly 7-pound buffalo carp, which flapped its tail in protest as an employee hauled it out of the water.

Bealls, T-Mobile plan stores in Bluff

Among the expansions and new businesses, I'd like to mention that Real Life Fellowship is opening a campus in the old mini mall next to Funtrackers. When they open it will be the largest church congregation in Flour Bluff. It is a casual dress church with contemporary music. The pastor makes the Bible and it's message come alive and teaches us how to apply God's word to our lives! I would like to invite anyone who is interested to check the church out. The current Corpus campus is located at Staples and Holly Rd. , also in Portland in the movie theater on Sunday mornings, and coming soon to Calallen at the Bay Area Fitness Center!

Torchwood writer shares some script secrets

One of the writers for hit BBC Wales series Torchwood will be speaking at a festival in Wales this week. Here Cath Tregenna shares some behind-the-scenes secrets with Emily Lambert

THERE is little point grilling Torchwood writer Cath Tregenna about what is going to happen to the characters in the sci-fi drama – neither she nor any of the series writers know.

"That's what makes it such a liberating experience," says the Llanelli actress-turned-writer, who has also written for Casualty and EastEnders.

"As long as you stay faithful to their past, the characters really are up for grabs.

"With a series like EastEnders or Casualty you are sent the story bible. Although you do write entire episodes with EastEnders, it has been pre-planned by the production team and they know what they want to happen.

Caledonia author in the trenches against PTSD

Ilona Meagher had never met anyone with post-traumatic stress disorder. She didn't have any family members returning from Iraq, and she didn't have military training.

In other words, there was no particular reason Meagher, a former flight attendant who lives in Caledonia, would become a passionate advocate for American soldiers struggling to adapt to life after war. .
