The Aussies look follow a British proposal to force ISPs to terminate ...

That's why we have been pushing a proposal to internet service providers for a commonsense system of warning notices which, if unheeded, would ultimately result in a user having their account suspended or disconnected." ISPs are unhappy with the move. National Internet Industry Association chief executive Peter Corones plans on airing his constituents' complaints to Mr. Conroy later this week. Mr. Corones argues that current penalties are "stiff enough". In Australia downloading music can land you injunctions, damages and costs, fines of up to $60,500 for individuals and up to $302,500 for corporations per infringement and up to five years' jail -- nothing to sneeze at. Corones argues, "Internet service providers are not the enforcers of copyright." The statement is a sharp juxtaposition to ISP policies in the U.S.

Update: Girl in intensive care after train track fall

A schoolgirl who fell on tracks at Worcester Park station as she ran to catch a train is being treated in intensive care.

The 15-year-old, a student at Raynes Park High School, suffered massive blood loss in the accident and has had her spleen removed.

She also has an injured left foot, is thought to have a fractured pelvis and will undergo more surgery today.

The girl was taken away on a stretcher and rushed to St George's Hospital in Tooting as police cordoned off the accident site yesterday.

She is believed to be in a stable but serious condition and the next 48 hours are critical.

The incident caused chaos for commuters who were told to get off the 7.52am train from Epsom to London Waterloo at Worcester Park yesterday.

Online at the Trade Deadline

Inquirer staff writer and NBA columnist David Aldridge will be blogging as tomorrow's 3 p.m. trade deadline approaches.

A sampling:

Who's next?

Now that Jason Kidd is a Maverick, who's the next major shoe to drop? Jermaine O'Neal? Well, the Pacers have told people that everyone on their roster except for Danny Granger is available. But O'Neal's big bucks ($21.3 million next season; $23 million in 2009-10) are prohibitive for most teams, and his injury troubles of late only make things worse. Still, it wouldn't shock if the Nets took a flier on him for, say, Vince Carter, as has been written about for weeks by reputable people.

Ron Artest? Denver, as any sentient being knows by now, is interested.

Tories demand Salmond quit as MP

Alex Salmond has taken part in just four out of a possible 149 Westminster votes since the Holyrood elections, it was revealed yesterday.

The figures were published by the Scottish Conservatives, whose deputy leader Murdo Fraser urged Mr Salmond to resign as MP for Banff and Buchan.

The First Minister, who was elected MSP for the neighbouring Gordon constituency in last May's election, has vowed to stay on as an MP until the next General Election, which may not take place until 2010.
